Reassessment of National Occupational Standards for Video Games

Publish Date: Tuesday 12th June 2012

TIGA, the trade association representing the UK games industry, is helping to generate new National Occupational Standards for video games.

Working with Creative Skillset and other partners, the aim is to reassess the standards for games qualifications throughout the UK. TIGA representatives from universities and companies, including Bedfordshire University, Portsmouth University, Crytek, Remode and Blitz Games Studios, will be feeding into the process.

Creative Skillset is asking industry practitioners and experts to get involved. The current Standards were developed with industry representatives in 2007 and the better the standards, the more relevant and flexible the qualifications that can be developed to ensure people are trained up with the right skills.

Dr Richard Wilson, CEO of TIGA, said:
"It is important that the industry reassesses the National Occupational Standards which underpin video games qualifications given the fast moving nature of our sector. Games qualifications must meet the needs of industry and so it is good to have this opportunity to review and update the National Occupational Standards.”
