Developer legend Tim Schafer & TIGA CEO Richard Wilson amongst new SpecialEffect Vice Presidents

More industry leaders and key players in the UK’s games industry have united in support of gamers’ charity SpecialEffect, which helps people with disabilities and serious illnesses to play video games.

The new group of Vice Presidents include CEO of Double Fine Productions Tim Schafer, author and MP Tom Watson, BBC technology journalist and author Kate Russell, UKIE CEO Jo Twist, Mastertronic CEO Andy Payne OBE, and TIGA CEO Richard Wilson.

Tim Schafer said “I am amazed and inspired by the great work that SpecialEffect does every day. I have always believed video games have the power not just to entertain, but really reach and connect. Thanks to SpecialEffect, they are able to connect even more people.”

The group join an impressive list of existing SpecialEffect Vice Presidents including Miles Jacobson OBE, Paul Wedgwood, Kirsty Payne, Johnny Minkley and Rupert Loman.

The group will help with the charity’s ongoing activities, including its upcoming GameBlast charity gaming weekend that’s aiming to raise £100K for the people they help (http://bit.ly/185wyRz).
